The American Mezzo-soprano Alexandra Hughes has performed with such distinguished North American companies as the San Francisco Opera, Seattle Opera, Santa Fe Opera, New York City Opera, Dallas Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and L'Opéra de Montreal, among others (see Repertoire).
In Europe, Ms. Hughes has sung leading roles with the Grand Théatre de Genève, Lausanne, Basel, Berne, Bonn, Freiburg, Marseille and the Finnish National Opera.
Her work is distinguished by her ability to go from the heavier and more demanding roles of Wagner to the lightness and fun of Cole Porter.
Alexandra's numerous and most recent recital and orchestral engagements have taken her to venues ranging from Rocamadour, France (Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle) to the Aspen Music festival to the stages of New York City such as Carnegie Hall and the Alice Tully Hall.
She recently accepted the position of artistic liason with Nuage France, a Paris and Boston-based organization that encourages at-risk youth groups through the arts.
Since 2004, Ms. Hughes has been honored with a Strathmore "Who's Who in America" V.I.P. award as well as  "Outstanding Professional of the Year" with America's Outstanding Professionals.
